AI Country Music is an independent, non-commercial on-demand music project built around original country songs. Every song is written and creatively directed by Dutch songwriter David van Coolwijk, who develops the lyrics, stories and melodies himself. The versions published here feature AI-generated vocals, many performed by Captain Frasca, the project's recurring virtual vocalist. Some of these same songs also exist as separate recordings featuring David's own, human voice — primarily on Spotify, YouTube and YouTube Music — kept deliberately distinct from the AI-performed versions. It began as a continuous internet radio station and moved to on-demand listening in 2026, when the yearly obligations of running a broadcast outgrew what a one-person project without income could carry. Listening is free and there is no advertising, subscription or commercial revenue of any kind.

David's story

David van Coolwijk grew up on classic country, outlaw country, and the kind of narrative songwriting where every verse is doing some real work — a story, a place, a feeling that needed somewhere to go. Long before any of this existed, he was already writing songs the same way: picking up a guitar, sitting at a piano, or working out a melody entirely by ear. He has absolute pitch, so a lot of that development happens in his head first, chords and melody both, before anything else gets involved.

What he didn't have was a studio band, session musicians, or the kind of production setup that turns a finished song into a finished recording. For years, that gap between "song written" and "song heard" was the hardest part. Then burnout made it harder still — the stamina it takes to sing, arrange, and produce a track properly wasn't reliably there anymore, even on days when the writing itself still came easily.

AI became a practical way through that gap. Not a replacement for the writing — the lyrics, the stories, the melodies, the creative direction were always going to be his either way — but a way to actually get finished recordings out of songs that would otherwise have stayed unfinished on a phone recording or a notebook page. Out of that came Captain Frasca: a consistent virtual voice he could use to perform the songs he'd written, take after take, without needing the physical stamina that singing and producing everything himself would require.

Alongside that, David has also sat down and sung a number of these songs himself, releasing those human recordings under his own name on Spotify, YouTube, and YouTube Music. He's kept the two deliberately separate — Captain Frasca's AI performances for the catalogue here, his own voice for those standalone releases — rather than blur the two together. Transparency about which is which has mattered to him from the start, more than making either version sound more impressive than it is.

None of this began as a plan to build a business around AI music. It started as a personal creative project during a difficult stretch of recovery, a way to keep making something even when his body and mind weren't fully cooperating. It grew, gradually, into a catalogue that reaches listeners well beyond where it started. For a while it ran as a round-the-clock radio station; today the same songs are there whenever someone presses play. That's still basically what it is: one person's songs, one recurring virtual voice, free, to anyone who wants to listen.

AI does not independently decide what music gets released — every recording is reviewed and selected by David before it's added to the catalogue.

Film, series, games, other artists, a song written for a specific brief — all of it is open to discussion. One thing worth knowing before you get in touch, because it saves everyone time: the recordings here are performed with AI. The songs are written by David — lyrics, stories, usually melody and chords — but the vocals, arrangement and production are AI-generated. There is no band and no session singer. If a project needs a human performance, this isn't the right fit.
