How does AI-generated country music work here?
Every song starts with lyrics and creative direction from David van Coolwijk — often the melody and chord progression too, worked out by humming or playing piano or guitar. AI is then used to arrange, perform, and produce the final recording, vocals included. In short: the songwriting and creative direction are human, AI brings the production to life. The reviewing side of that process eventually became its own tool — VerseWorthy, which reads a country lyric the way a co-writer would.
Why use AI vocals instead of singing the songs yourself?
This is run by one person, who is currently recovering from burnout. That's left him without the stamina to sing every song personally right now. AI-generated vocals let the songs still be finished, performed, and shared in the meantime — not as a replacement for singing, but as a way to keep creating during a period where that isn't possible unaided. As his voice recovers, more self-sung tracks will be released on Spotify.
Doesn't that undercut real musicians and singers?
That's exactly the concern that shaped how this is run. It isn't meant to compete with musicians who've spent years earning their craft on stage, or to pretend this is the same as a live band. It's a personal project — one songwriter's own space for his own material, not a commercial alternative to hiring or supporting human performers.
How can I listen to AI Country Music?
Open the player and press Start listening. The songs then play one after another in an order shuffled just for you, and you can skip, go back, or jump to anything in the queue. It's free, works in any browser on a laptop or a phone, and needs no account. More ways to listen →
Why isn't this a live radio station any more?
It used to run as a continuous internet broadcast — one stream, everybody hearing the same song at the same moment. That format brought yearly obligations and costs with it that a one-person project with no advertising, no sponsors and no income couldn't keep carrying. The stream has been switched off; the music stayed. The full story is on the About page.
What actually changed for me as a listener?
You press play instead of tuning in. Your order is shuffled in your own browser, so nobody else hears the same sequence, and you can skip, replay, scrub through a song or jump straight to something further down the queue. What you lose is the shared moment: there's no longer a single song that everyone is hearing at once.
Are public domain cover songs free to record and publish?
A public domain song has no active copyright — the protection term has expired — so anyone can perform and record it without needing permission from a rights holder. AI Country Music includes a small number of these, clearly marked in the song catalogue. New recordings of a public domain song (like the ones here) are still original works in their own right, owned by whoever made that specific recording.
What about songs that aren't public domain?
Making someone else's still-copyrighted song publicly available generally requires separate licensing, beyond what's needed to distribute your own recording on streaming platforms. In the Netherlands that typically involves BumaStemra for the composition and Sena for the recording, if the recording belongs to someone else. That's exactly why the catalogue here contains only original material and genuine public domain songs.
Who owns the rights to these songs?
David van Coolwijk, under Boot Scoot Media, writes and owns the vast majority of the catalogue — every original song is his own composition. The handful of public domain traditional songs have no owner under copyright law; they belong to everyone.
Will these songs be released on Spotify?
Yes — distribution is ongoing, so not every song in the catalogue is on Spotify yet. Songs are added over time as they're finished and distributed. The current release list is available on the Spotify artist page.
Can I use one of these songs, or work together on something?
Yes — collaborations and licensing are both open to discussion, whether that's film, series, games or another artist. Worth knowing up front: the recordings are performed with AI. The writing is human, the performance isn't, and there's no band or session singer behind it. If a project needs a human performance, this isn't the right fit. Get in touch with the details and I'll tell you honestly whether it's something I can do.
Is this a radio station, and whose music is it?
It isn't a radio station — there's no live stream and no shared broadcast. Every listener gets their own shuffled session and can skip, go back, or pick a specific song. And the music is all produced for this project: original songs written by David van Coolwijk and performed with AI, plus a number of traditional public domain songs in recordings made here. No commercial or third-party catalogue is played through this site.
